Last Night
Last night I did a performance at PhotographerC Benders place, Heron Park. The focus of the evening was the process of songwriting, he had a link with a thread that was for questions that people had about the 'process'...each artist has their own process, I doubt there are any two that are alike, but there are ones that are similiar.
Some of the questions included "What inspires you to write" "What motivates you more, sorrow or pain?" "What is the process you work in, music or lyrics? What do you use to record and do you do seperate tracks or all ''live' track?"...Interesting....and then i proposed a question for the Audience...'What do you listen to when listening to Live Music, Lyrics? Or Music? A certain content, or a lil of both?" Some of the responses were "Truth. Emotion. Vibe. Music. Feelings. Content. Lyrical power" etc...it was great to see such a broad spectrum of answers...there is no right or wrong in what you listen to.
The range of answers from myself to the audience...motivation comes from experience...I don't necessarily write 'more or less' from either 'sorrow or pain'...happiness or joy....it can come from so many things, but i do have what I call "Sponge Mode"...and that is when I absorb everything around me, like a sponge, and somehow words and music have this amazing way of coming together to create the beginning of a song, which was another question...how does the 'beginning' of the song happen....my reply "it just does'...for myself and I'm sure some other writers also experience it in a similiar way...the music forms, the chords kinda happen..it's almost as if the chords have mouths of their own, and begin to form words....yeah...thing is, when I say that out loud, I get that "OooooooKAY" look, but other writers, kinda understand the concept of what I mean when I say that.
Anyway................the night was Enlightening and informative in not just the fact that I learned a lil bit of what my audience perceives in my music, and I also what I perceive in my audience....This is how Relationships grow, and to me, my audience is a 'relationship' of what brings us together, some common thread we all share, yet for each of us, we experience it just a little bit different...this is where we learn.
Most people that come to my shows, I have learned, are into the lyrics, which is also my main 'root'...writing what I feel, into something that makes sense, and can translate to the listener...in a way where I can kinda bring them into my experience and what I was feeling at the time I wrote it.
Sometimes it's painful.
Sometimes it's a plateau for me, and I reach a new height.
Sometimes it's simply words that enlighten me, days or even months after I've written, and sometimes, it truly is the Universe, writing thru me, making my hand move across the paper, releasing the toxins in me, out onto the paper...into the neck of the guitar....
COmments?
insight?
Experiences?
Feel free to share!!!

It's Saturday night, almost 7pm my time, Central...on Saturdays, i tend to NOT book myself if I can help it...but of course that all depends on the mood, maybe I'll put on an impromptu at my Living Room #13, maybe I'll do one of my new favorite pass times and sit in my Tree....and the Tree, well the Tree is just cool, mostly cuz I made it, and everyone knows, i'm not all complex and crazy, i just like to be 'interactive'....So i went to Pillow Talk, cuz well, they're very cool, Sandy is a wonderful animator, and the things she has for poses, embedded in pillows, that you can mod the texture on (don't buy if you can't mod texture)....chilled out relaxed kicked back poses.
Attim Hokkagai, my builder and great friend, turned me on to Pillow Talk....so I bought LOTS of stuff there, and of course people LOVE Their poses at my Living Room, and at my place on Atropolis, and of course on my Bliss Gardens Rooftop....very 'realistic' long looped anims, not that silly Static stuff that makes you suddenly become a Still life, GRRR!
So what am i going to do on my Saturday night when i can ENJOY live music, of other Talented SL Artists, like Cylindrian Rutabaga, or perhaps Linus Radford who does a moody set of scratch the soul emotive songs.
Then, there is Charles Coleman and his raspy, gritty and honest performances....nothing 'unreal or fake' about this guy, and if I'm lucky, i catch someone I havn't heard since the early days, like Astrin Few, who does an exhilerating ride of jazz on classical guitar, the way this man plays absolutely puts me in the frame of mind of ambience. Then....there is Joaquin...WOW, pure essential, bold and highly effective flamenco, tango, straight from Argentina...he just simply plays guitar, and when this guy sings (if you can convince him) WOW! Absolutely soulmovin.
Cylindrian has a unique Folk Roots down Home feel, something I grew up on, but in this 'other direction'...she takes it to the level of Reach, there is no Limit, of course not, you can do whatever you want to do here...and this woman takes it on a walk, lil stories, emotional lyrics, colorful vocals...
and i could go on and on and on and on
buti won't
cuz i want you to come back
and read what i write next

Orange Island-SL Culture-Music
http://www.google.com/calendar/embed?src=dirtypiratewhores%40gmail.com&ctz=America/Los_Angeles
I was thrilled when I was asked recently to perform at Orange Island, during the Second Life discussions on Virtual Culture, Music, Art...the debates were heavy at times, and a bit difficult to Keep on! Thanks to Nick Rhodes, Sukkubus, Jade Lily and all those involved in making me feel very welcome in their community! There were also discussions on Relay For Life (RFL) events, which I have been heavily involved in for the past 2 years, this will be my 3rd season with RFL and my first season with Haroldthe Burrels Raiders for a Cure team, which I am honored to be a part of! We have a great team of Survivors, musicians, artists, DJ's etc.....it is a team I am proud to represent this year, and have every intention of making it my best year Ever with RFL.
Last year, many of us lost a wonderful woman, FeL...she put smiles in our hears and souls and we shared many conversations on the phone before her passing.
2 hours or so before the world has lost her, in this dimension, on this planet...(because she is around, just not physically)...I wrote the song "Bright As Day" which was on last years Compilation CD, for RFL...I am touched every time I perform this song, as I have no doubt, that "Theresa" (FeL) had a big part in this song.....it was time for her to, and WOW did she put up a great Fight, never complaining, always thinking of others...her spirit will not be forgotten, we will pass your story on FeL!
Thanks again Orange Island.....thank you all of you for your wonderful support not only with my music, but the Community as a whole.
There was a great panel of musicians as well...touching on topics of 'Who we are in SL vs RL" and is there a difference? Immersion VS Augmentation, which it seems many were confused about as well as myself....however the discussions were full of new information...you can read more on the Link listed above!
Thanks again.........:)

Welcome to the Suzen "JueL" Resistance Fan Club BLOG!
Please allow me to introduce myself; my name is Suzen JueL, a.k.a. JueL Resistance. In my first post I'll leave you with official press biography and let you digest. I'll get back on here soon and we'll talk about everything from who JueL is to what I'll be doing next. Just remember, its all about the music. Peace & Love-- JueL
Suzen JueL a.k.a. JueL Resistance, is a self taught musician who has been performing since 1979. She has perfected the weaving of her mind's eye and heart's passion into lyrical paintings richly embedded with emotional hues from her personal experiences. Her lyrics feed the listener's soul and stirs the heart and sentiment of any who have been privileged to hear her perform them. Suzen "JueL" Resistance's creative roots are deeply entrenched in a family of french musicians, artists and writers. Her Grampa Jule made a guitar in 1967,that he later gave her when she showed a keen interest in music. With her newfound passion she began writing and playing at every opportunity. JueL moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1989 and enjoyed ten amazing, successful years playing at The Fine Line, The Loring Bar, Club Metro and numerous other cafes and coffeehouses. She recorded her first CD during that era and with high hopes waited for her star to rise. Soon after, she met and married her soulmate and became a stepmom to his 4 awesome boys who lived with them. As often happens in life, her ambitions were pushed to the back as she became a wife and mother to her new family. Years later with the boys grown, she found herself tickling the guitar strings once again. Her style and sound have been compared, both lyrically and vocally, to such legendary greats as Bob Dylan, Lucinda Williams, Sue Foley, Leonard Cohen, Janis Joplin, Mazzy Star, Curt Cobain as well as a generous handful of other talented acoustic musicians. As one of the first indie musicians to join and perform in Second Life, she has built a strong presence in the virtual world. A world where she is also known for her visual art work; her paintings, drawings and photography are displayed in various galleries throughout Second Life. In addition, she owns and performs at the infamous "Living Room #13" where she has headlined and hosted Naked Acoustic Sessions for almost 2 years, bringing in only the finest seasoned and raw musicians of SL. JueL is currently working on her latest CD while preparing for her 2nd adventure to Mahoneyfest in Georgia. Her latest work in progress is a compilation of both recent and past experiences blended soulfully into a deep groove of blues, americana, folk and "unplugged acoustics". To listen to and support JueL's music you can find her web presences at http://www.thesixtyone.com/JueLResistance and http://www.myspace.com/7Juel.
